Puppies!

Since the loss of Stella at the end of November last year, we have been discussing getting a friend for Paris. Paris has always had company and now that she is Stella-less, she has become more dependent on us and has started to whine a lot. She used to love being outside, sunbathing and chasing anything that ventured into the backyard, but now she is more content to be inside with us. So with our move and 1/2 an acre to run around in, we thought it was time to get a new puppy.

I wanted another Boxer, I can't resist them! Yet, in all seriousness, Stella was 7 years old when we lost her to cancer, which was her second lot of cancer. Stella meant everything to us, even accompanying us on the move from the UK - I seriously dont think that we could go through losing another dog at only 7 years old. Mat has decided after turing down my second choice, which was a Great Dane (another dog that does not have a long life-span) and he has decided on a Rhodesian Ridgeback.

On my searches on the internet I have found a breeder on the Mid-north Coast of NSW that breeds them and they have a litter at the moment.

The puppies were born on 21/06/09 (a week old in this photo taken yesterday) so we are on our way in the next week or so to have a look at these little babies. We are going to get one of the females that does not have a stripe (the ridge) down it's back.

I found out today (from the breeder) that Ridgebacks that are ridgeless (without the stripe) used to be put down as they were not accepted by the public. So as we dont go with the norm we are going to have a Ridgeback without the ridgeback!

Watch this space for updated pics - we wont be able to get our new puppy until the middle of August. Female dog name suggestions would be welcome!

So cute!

Just wanted to share a pic (or two) of Ella this morning wearing her new O+S pj's. So cute!

O+S PJ's Take 2

The O+S PJ's were the first non-skirt pattern that I made. I made them originally using a yellow jersey that I got from Spotlight. I was planning to make a second pair using the flannel material (that was also used on the first pair as the trim), however, I found a little sewing shop on Thursday, where I came across some white fleecy material. At first I thought it was wadding, but on closer inspection it was tracksuit fleece. It is lovely and soft and much better quality than the Spotlight one that I bought. Even thought it was white/cream and that is not the most practical colour for a toddler, I had to buy it, plus it was only $6.95/m - bargain! So another pair of O+S jammies had to be made.

The difference with these pj's - is that I added the binding to the bottom and the sleeves of the kimono top.

The first time I made this pattern - I thought that the kimono top took forever, this time I knocked it up in no time. I can now see how much my sewing has improved in 2 months. Like all of the O+S patterns that I have made, this is a great pattern. Their instructions are really detailed and easy to follow.

Next project - I have another bag that I want to make. This time it is different than the other ones that I have made - but I am going to keep it hush hush - just looking for the right material.

Dilemma .......

What am I to do?

I have made another bag - it is the same bag as the EB bag swap, but this time I went with black and white fabric. I started this afternoon, deciding to make two bags at once. Ella had a marathon sleep and Mat has been occupied with planting his birthday hedge and watching football with my brother who is staying the night, so I got in some really good sewing time.

Anyway..... back to my dilemma. I love the new black and white bag! I love the one that I have already made, but I love this one.

I can't show too much, as I dont want to give anything away, but here is a quick pic.

So who knows, I have a couple of weeks before I send away the bag, so I will have to decide in that time. I better not make any more bags in the mean time, or I am sure that I will fall in love with that one too.

Tomorrow I am off to Spotlight to get another zip and some more supplies to finish off the second black and white bag for my mum.

Little Yellow Birds

I fell in love with this Timeless Treasures fabric and this little dress, when I first saw it on Flickr. I have blogged about this before, but I have finally had the chance to make it in the fabric that I originally saw it. It is the Leila&Ben Sweet Little Dress.

Today, I had a shocker. Ella deleted my icons off my iphone, so the only icon I had left was the ipod one, and then I had to re-thread my overlocker. This is something that I do not want to have to do for a long time, and being my first time of having to re-thread it, it took about 40 mins and a few choice words. I give myself credit for actually having the patience to sew!

Ella was not the willing model tonight - and everytime I would try and take a photo, she would sit down, so apologies for the not so good pics.

I am a shoe person - and so I think I am going to pass this onto Ella. I bought two pairs of these little ballet flats at Cotton On Kids a couple of weeks ago. I added some elastic to them (so that they would stay on) aren't they so cute. The black spots are furry material. Unfortunately they did not make my size - or I would have bought a pair!

Next project - another bag. The same as my bag swap, but this time in a black & white fabric for my mum and mother-in-law, plus another Uptown Girl jacket for Ella.

Robbies had a baby!

My best friend Robbie was due to have a caesar on 18th June 2009. As soon as she told me the date, I thought it was too late as the baby was due on 14th June 2009. I thought her c/s date should be 11th June 2009. We got a test message on Friday night (12th June 2009) saying that Ava Elizabeth had been born at 7:02pm. She arrived before her scheduled c/s - but like always babies come when they are ready, not to the schedule that we give them. As I now live 2 1/2 hours away, I am hoping to go and visit her and Ava this week.

Now to the reason for my post. I wanted to share a gift that I was given before I had Ella and it is now my gift to give for a new baby.

It is a cosmetic/tioletries bag - make sure that it is a good size one. The one in the picture is 'Wicked Sista' - they always have nice prints and they are a good size.

I fill it with everything that you need to change your baby. So nappies, nappy bags, wipes, anti-bac cream etc. In mine I have also added a singlet, some socks and the ever important dummy.

The wipes are missing in the pic - the shops I visited today did not have any travel size baby wipes

It is a great bag to have everything in one spot. When Ella was really little (and before I had to cart around a lot of garbage) I used to leave the nappy bag at home and pop this little bag in the bottom of the pram. Now, as she is bigger, I need to carry a bigger bag, but the nappy change bag always stays in the bottom of the pram.

Congrats Robbie and Doug - you deserve all the happiness that this little girl will bring you, and hopefully you don't have too many sleepness nights.

EB Bag Swap..... Sneak Peak #2

As mentioned in my last post, I am taking part in the EB Bag Swap. I have now completed my bag. Here is a sneak peak of the finished product.

For the rest, you will have to wait until 10th July.

EB Bag Swap....sneak peek

I am currently participating in the EB Bag Swap. We have been given our swap partners - at the moment we only know who we are sewing for, not who is sewing for us. I have not started on my bag yet, as I have been waiting for my fabric and pattern to arrive, but here is a little sneak peak of what I am going to make.

The picture below is part of the pattern, but I don't want to give too much away. Stay tuned for another update.

Opening day is 10th July 2009

Simplicity 3853....with a bit of style!

Yesterday I made a pair of Simplicity 3853 pants, which I was quite dissappointed with. So I went away and had a play with the pattern. I took 1" off each of the legs (in width) and I added 4cm to the leg length. I thought that the pants needed some pockets. So I added pockets on the front of the pants, two back pockets and a little pocket on one of the legs.

For the pockets (that are on the front, but normal internal pockets) I used the pattern from my Oliver+S Sunday Brunch Skirt. These were really quick and simple to put in.

For the back pockets and the leg pocket I copied a pocket from one of Ella's pants. The three pockets are the same.

I am now happy with these pants. The only thing that would have made them perfect was a fake fly on the front. I dont know how to make these yet, so I will have to have a play next time.

Simplicity 3853

Yesterday I bought the Simplicity 3853 pattern. I was looking for a nice pants pattern for a while and this one looked easy and quick to make. I love the pink camo fabric that I have previosuly used and wanted to make a little pair of camo pants.

This is the first pattern that I can say that I am dissappointed in. The pants are about 1" too short (Ella is short so that is saying something) the pants really balloon and they are not nice. I have taken a pic of her Pumpkin Patch size 0 cord pants as a guide to show how much extra fabric in the legs.

I think that these pants are an 1" too wide in each of the legs (front and back) and if I alter the pattern in this way, it should take away from the ballooning.

Keep an eye out for camo pants mark 2

Etsy Fabric

It is great to get mail that is not a bill, but it is even better when you get home from work and find a package waiting for you. Yesterday I received my latest Etsy order. It only took 6 days to arrive from the US, so you have to be pretty happy with that.

The question I need to ask now is...... what am I going to make with all of this fabric?
