My last couple of attempts at making clothing for myself have been disasters!!! It really put me off sewing for myself, and I went back to sewing for the kids. Their clothes seem to be so much easier. They always fit and they come together easily.
With winter coming, and receiving a pair of boots for Mothers Day, I thought it was time that I tried again.
When I first learnt to sew I made a skirt for Ella. Once I had mastered a skirt, I moved onto other things. So I thought I would do the same. Start with a skirt and then move up from there.
A skirt may not be a big thing for most people, but a skirt for me is HUGE! I don't wear skirts! I only own one skirt and the only time I have worn it was for my brothers wedding in 2006!
The skirt pattern is Simplicity 2226. It is an easy pattern to sew. I didn't read any of the pattern instructions, I used the 'sew along' from Noodleheads blog. It only took a couple of hours including tracing and cutting.
I love how the skirt turned out. I was worried that it would look silly and I would have wasted my time and fabric, but thankfully that wasn't the case. The skirt is a little bit messy inside (more than I would have liked) but I am sure I can fix that one the next one.
With my first wearable garment in the bag, I am sure you will see more to come!
